I'm currently compiling a post with my reactions to the mountain of books I've been reading but I'm going to wait until I've finished all of them before posting that monster so today we get a random amalgamation of my life. Yay!
My ceramics class is wrapping up, our last day to do trim and finishing work is Monday, so we're all desperately praying that our pieces dry in time. I figured this week wouldn't be an issue because we're finally starting to get the hotter summer weather I'd normally expect right now but then it rained last night and it's raining again now which will play a detrimental role in the drying of the last pieces I made yesterday. Ugh. Weather. Why do you mock me? Realistically I think I'll be able to prep all my pieces in time to fire next week but the threat of having to throw pieces in the slurry buckets makes me panic, especially since my newest pieces are the biggest I've made so far and I'm actually really happy with them and reeeeaaaaallllly want to keep them! Fingers crossed! After bisque firing I'll just have the glazing left to go which I'm excited for but it's also another potential way to screw things up so happy anxiety!
Yesterday we lost power at work for almost two hours which provided an excellent opportunity for me to unleash the windup mouse I'd just obtained on Tuesday night. It was a very rewarding experience. When I arrived home around 5:45, though, I discovered that my zip code had lost power at 5pm and it didn't come back until 10pm. It's probably the longest power-outage I've experienced in a while and while it was a tad boring it wasn't as bad as the last time we'd lost power [sometime during fall when it got dark at 5pm]. It did seem weird to have two such outages in one day though.
The daughter of some friends from New York is getting married out here this weekend and while we're missing her wedding due to a family reunion we did get to see her and her fiance on Tuesday. Yay double dates. I've long felt like it's important to have couple friends but I'm also well aware of the struggles of trying to match up four separate personalities. These two are sweet though so I think we'll see more of them in future. The bride's family, for various last-minute reasons, moved out to the area two weeks ago and will actually be living pretty darn close to us which is a fun surprise. You really just can't get rid of some people even if you're 2,000 miles away! haha
